A two-time All-NCAA West Regional selection, Eckert was a top-notch guard for two of Chapman's greatest basketball teams in 1958-59 and 1959-60, which posted a combined record of 47-10 capped by a runner-up finish in the 1960 NCAA College Division National Championships in Evansville, Ind.

An unselfish athlete and expert free throw shooter, Eckert set a school record with an .838 success rate from the charity stripe in 1959-60 and his 114 made free throws that year is still a Panther record.
