Duddy, a 1942 graduate who played guard on the basketball team, founded in 1948 the Los Angeles Red Devils, a team believed to be the first professional basketball franchise on the West Coast. Duddy is still remembered for his leadership at Chapman as each year, Panther Athletics hands out an award with his name on it to the female student-athlete who best displays leadership amongst their team and on campus. He was inducted posthumously in 1993.
