Along with pitcher Louise Figlewitz, Copelin was Chapman's first softball All-American when the two earned the honors during the 1980 season. Copelin helped lead the Panthers to three consecutive West Regional playoffs from 1979-81 and national championship berths in '79 and '80 when the Panthers placed second overall.

A career .321 hitter with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, Copelin led the Panthers in RBI, hits, home runs and outfield assists all three years. During the '79 season, Copelin batted .309 with five doubles and three home runs to propel Chapman to a 26-win season.
