As team captain with a 3.9 GPA in biology and chemistry, Barcellona earned Academic All-America honors in 1998 and ’99 and was named Male Student Athlete of the Year in ’99. He helped the Panthers to the NCAA baseball playoffs three times and a West Region title in 1997 and earned the university’s most prestigious Cheverton Trophy– awarded to Chapman’s top graduating senior. For his career, he still ranks in Chapman’s top-10 in runs, stolen bases and assists. And in 1999, he led all of Division III as the “Toughest to Strikeout” with just two strikeouts in 135 at-bats.
