Chapman University

Chapman's first All-American, Hamblin was also among the inaugural inductees into the school's Hall of Fame in 1980. He was the Panthers' Welch Trophy winner as Most Valuable Player all four years from 1955-59 and twice earned UPI Little All-America honors. When he graduated he had scored more points than any player in Chapman history with 1,884, a number only surpassed by Roger Middleton '92 who is the only Panther to even come within 200 points. Hamblin still holds the Chapman record for career rebounds with 1,326.

Hamblin helped the Panthers to the NCAA Regionals and advance the national tournament in 1958 as a senior, defeating Fresno State and earning Regionals MVP honors. He was then named to the All-Tournament team at the NCAA Nationals.

An All-Southern California and All-Pacific Coast award winner, the team captain later had his number 54 retired by Chapman. In 1982, Hamblin was inducted into the Orange County Hall of Fame as the county's first All-American basketball player
