Chapman Athletics Hall of Fame (est. 1979)
Richards was the ace right-hander on Chapman's 1968 NCAA College Division National Championship baseball team, setting school records with 13 wins and 143 strikeouts that season. He also set a Panther single-game record with 17 strikeouts - a record that has since been equaled, but never broken. He earned All-America and All-Pacific Coast honors that year and finished his two-year Chapman career (1967-68) with 24 wins and 232 strikeouts in 276 innings. Richards then signed with the California Angels and played two seasons in their farm system.
