Women's water polo cruises to pair of home wins

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team defeated Connecticut College and Occidental in a Wednesday doubleheader at Allred Pool. After every active field player scored in a 20-4 win over Connecticut College, the Panthers capture their first SCIAC win of the season with a 15-7 victory over Occidental.

Game 1 – W, 20-4 vs. Connecticut College

Every player scored in a 20-4 win for the Chapman University women's water polo over visiting Connecticut College. Annie Lewis led the Panthers with three goals.

Lewis' three goals and three assists led the scoring onslaught for the Panthers in the afternoon game of a doubleheader. After a slow start that had Chapman and Connecticut College tied 2-2, Camille Chiang and Julia Bridges scored back to back goals for a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.

Jamie Chin scored twice early in the second quarter and the Panthers continued to pull away for the rest of the match. The lead grew to 8-2 and halftime before ballooning to 13-3 heading into the fourth.

Chapman was able to dip into its bench and set up every field player to score at least one goal. Maria Sell scored all four goals for the Camels.

Game 2 – W, 15-7 vs. Occidental

Julia Bridges scored five goals and assisted on two more as the Panthers rolled to a 15-7 win over Occidental. Chapman picked up its first SCIAC win of the season.

After a battle through the first quarter, the Panthers again locked down on defense to pull away. Chapman allowed just one goal in the second and none in the third to turn a 4-3 lead after the first eight minutes to a 12-4 lead after three quarters. Bridges scored a hat trick in the second quarter and added two more insurance goals in the third.

Georgina Burton made 13 saves in goal while Chiang and Kasey Markell each came away with five steals.

The Panthers head to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday for another SCIAC showdown and will return to Allred Pool on March 25.
