Women break two school records, men win big over No. 1 Sagehens

CLAREMONT, Calif — A pair of school records were shattered by the women, and the men took down No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer in a dual victory today at the SCIAC #2 meet hosted by Claremont-M-S on Saturday, Apr. 2.

The men topped Pomona-Pitzer 82-70 and Cal Lutheran 101-57. The women beat Pomona-Pitzer 74-64, but fell to Cal Lutheran 91-66.

Panthers all across the board put on spectacular performances. On the Women's side the 4 x 100 meter relay team topped the record of 50.05 set in 2014 with a time of 49.75.

The 4 X 400 relay team followed that up with another victory, this time beating the previous 2019 record, 4:08.29 by a second-and-a-half, 4:06.75. The men's 4 x 400 team also saw success, placing third.

On the men's side, Jesse McMillan took home yet another pole vault victory, tying for first at 14' 11". He also placed second in the High Jump. Anthony Hart placed second in the 3000 Steeplechase, and was just .1 seconds off the school record. Staying on longer distances, Daniel Sealand and Gil Bothwell placed second and third respectively in the men's 800 meter. And Kayla Almeida placed second on the women's side.

Other notable performances came from Zoe Zurasky, who placed third in the 100 meter dash and second in the 200 meter.  Allison Kremer posted a time of just over one minute in the 400 meter dash, good enough for second place. Rounding out the track performances, Khyra Stiner and Jason Dillon edged out second place finishes in the 400 hurdles.

Moving to the field, a lot of Panther men performed well with Christopher Dykman taking home a second place finish in men's Javelin. Sam Thompson and Alexander Paen also placed top-five in the same event. Sean Longley finished second in the discus.

And last, but certainly not least, Maija Girardi keeps the solid performances coming with a second place finish in women's Javelin.

The Panthers next meet is next weekend at the Triton Invite hosted by UC San Diego.
