CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University track & field teams dominated the first meet of the outdoor season, winning the SCIAC Quad Cup 1 with 485 combined team points. The Panthers combined for 18 event wins with the women's team winning 11 and the men's team winning seven.
Chloe Mitchell broke her own by a meter and a half with a throw of 42.65 meters (139-feet, 11-inches) to win the event for Chapman. Her discus win was one of six field event wins for the Panthers, led by a pair of wins from Eva Ndoye in the shot put and the javelin.
Jadyn Ayala had a personal-best while taking first in the hammer throw. Her throw of 41.71 meters (136-feet, 10-inches) just beat out her old mark of 41.68 meters.
Makenna Lizarde also had a pair of event wins, taking both the 100m and 200m dashes. Sarah Charles also won the 400 while Regina O'Leary and Mia Shannon combined to sweep the hurdles. Lizarde and Charles both also contributed to a winning effort from the 4x100m relay team.
Mason Fara continued to be a force in the SCIAC in the sprints. He won the 200m dash with a 22.04 and the 400m with a 48.00. He picked up a third win on the Panthers' winning 4x100m relay team.
Lucas Turano and Gavin White picked up wins in the distance events as Turano won the 800 and White won the 5k. Wyn Smoole added another win on the track in the 110m hurdles.
Thatch Balady cleared a personal-best 4.85 meters (15-feet, 11-inches) to take first in the pole vault to lead the men's team in the field events.
Chapman won its opening SCIAC Quad Cup meet for the second year in a row and advances on to the higher tier of SCIAC Quad Cup. The Panthers will compete against CMS, Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands on March 28 at CMS.
