Track & field competes at first SCIAC Multi-Dual

LA VERNE, Calif. – The Chapman University track & field teams took on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Whittier and La Verne at the first SCIAC Multi-Dual of the season. Anthony Hart had a big personal-best in the steeplechase.

Hart took fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with a 9:37.93 but was less than a second away from third place as three runners finished together. He dropped nearly 13 seconds off his best time, which was also the fastest in Chapman's Division III history, set at the SCIAC Championships last year.

Michael Crumby and Donovan Wilson has the highest finishes for the men's team as both took second place in their respective events. Crumby ran a 16.35 in the 110m hurdles and Wilson sprinted the 100m dash in 11.12 seconds.

The women's teams saw three athletes finish in second place, including Maddie Mirro, in the 1500m run. Mirro was less than half a second off the winner as she finished the event with a 4:43.60. Alli Kremer also took second in the 400m dash with a 1:00.93 Kayla Almeida finished second in the 800m run with a 2:24.23.

Kremer also had a solid showing in the 200m dash when she took fifth with a 27.25. She was joined in the 800 by a fifth-place finish from Jordan Diaz. Katarina Maric took third in the 400m dash with a 1:10.62.

In the field events, Chapman had three third-place finishes to lead the men's team. Just one week after breaking the school record in the javelin, Chris Dyckman placed third in the event with a throw of 48.07 meters. Jesse McMillan also took third in the pole vault when he cleared 4.25 meters on his second attempt. Sean Longley threw the discus 36.95 meters to take third as well.

Wilson also had a fifth-place finish in the 200m dash and Zach Leith took fourth in the 800m run with a 2:02.64. The Chapman men's 4x400m relay team of Nate Wong, Gill Bothwell, Moises Brito and Aaron Arauz finished second with a 3:30.63.

The Panthers are off to the Oxy Distance Carnival next Saturday.
