ORANGE, Calif. – Tobi Howe knocked in a penalty kick to lift the Chapman University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Redlands on Wednesday. Chapman won its third consecutive match and remains unbeaten in its last five.

Since suffering their only loss of the season, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 16-5 on their way to a 4-0-1 record. The winning streak into a tie atop of the SCIAC standings after Occidental played to a 1-1 draw with Cal Lutheran tonight.

The Bulldogs outshot the Panthers 4-3 in the first half and Chandler Siemonsma to make two of his four saves. The Panthers held the 6-3 shot advantage in the second half for a 9-7 advantage in the match.

After a scoreless 45 minutes to open the match, both teams pushed to be the first on the scoreboard. In the 59th minute, a defensive misplay sent a high-arcing ball off the crossbar and to the feet of Philip Kostenko. He quickly fired a shot but Siemonsma came diving in to punch away the shot and keep the match scoreless.

Just one minute later, Garrett Linfeldt tried to redirect a cross to the far post but Seth Lawrence read it perfectly for the save.

In the 76th minute, Howe held possession in the box when he was pulled down and awarded a penalty kick. The senior captain stepped to the spot and converted on the opportunity for the game's only goal.

The Panthers held the Bulldogs back over the final 14 minutes to grab the crucial three points in the standings. Chapman returns to the pitch next Wednesday at 4 p.m. to take on Pomona-Pitzer as the season enters the home stretch with just four SCIAC matches remaining.
