ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team fell 11-7 to visiting La Verne on Wednesday. Sophomore Camille Chiang scored three goals to lead the Panthers.
La Verne earned the win in its return to the pool on Wednesday. The Leopards joined the SCIAC as the fourth team to compete this season and will next compete in the SCIAC Tournament this weekend.
Chiang scored the first goal of the match just over four minutes in to give Chapman the initial 1-0 lead After La Verne responded, Chiang scored again for a 2-1 Chapman lead. That would be the final lead of the day for Chapman as La Verne scored the next four goals over a four-and-a-half minute span to go out in front for good.
La Verne's Jassmine Kezman kicked off the run with her first of four goals in the contest. Chapman scored the final two goals of the half to make it 5-4 at halftime with junior Charlene Ma scoring in the final minute.
Back-to-back La Verne goals opened the half before Chiang and freshman Leighanne Estabrook scored to make it 7-6 less than four minutes into the third quarter. La Verne again embarked on a four-goal run to put the game away.
Chapman will next play in the SCIAC Tournament on Saturday with seeding announced tomorrow by the SCIAC.
