ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team ended its 2019 home schedule with a 0-0 draw against UC Santa Cruz. Sophomore Chandler Siemonsma made eight saves to keep the match scoreless.

The Panthers withstood 17 shots from the visiting Banana Slugs, including nine in the first half, over the 110 minutes of play. The Panthers took 11 shots but put just three on goal.

Siemonsma saved back-to-back shots in the 20th minute to keep the match scoreless while UCSC kept the majority of the possession and surged forward. He erased a one-on-one opportunity later in the first with a sliding save against the oncoming attacker.

In the second half, the Slugs had another back-to-back opportunity. The first save was point right back to the attacker's feet. Siemonsma was able to get just enough of the second shot to give his defender time to head it off the line to keep the clean sheet.

In the second overtime, it was the Panthers who put together the best chance to get the golden goal. Freshman Chris Sanchez's long throw-ins gave Chapman a chance in the box. One time, it fell to the feet of senior Patrick Quinn. The second time, sophomore Tobi Howe volleyed a shot off the throw in. Both chances went over the bar and the match ended still scoreless.

Chapman has one more match left in the 2019 season. The Panthers will head to La Verne on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match.
