ORANGE, Calif. – A microcosm of the season, the Chapman University women's water polo team's experience at the SCIAC Championships this weekend mirrored the ups-and-downs and close losses from its regular season. The Panthers defeated University of La Verne 16-7 in the tournament finale to secure seventh place in the conference standings and put a wrap on the 2014 season.
Chapman (11-24 overall, 4-8 conference) defeated Caltech 11-2 and then lost another heartbreaker 8-7 to Occidental College on Saturday. The Panthers played 10 one-goal games this season, going 1-9 in those games.
Game 2: Chapman 11, Caltech 2
A big game from senior driver Allison Harf paced the Panthers into the consolation bracket after Friday's first-round loss to Claremont. Harf scored three goals and added four assists, and was credited with four earned ejections for good measure. Freshman 2-meter Emiko Mizusawa scored three goals as well and junior goalie Kirsten Spicer made six saves in the cage.

Game 3: Occidental 8, Chapman 7
Despite trailing the entire first half, Chapman rallied to tie it in the third quarter and took the lead later at 6-5 and again in the fourth quarter at 7-6. However, Occidental scored twice in 28 seconds including the game winner with 2:30 remaining to earn the win and advance to the fifth-place game. It was the second straight one-goal loss to the Tigers this season. Junior utility Riley Ford led the Panthers with three goals and an assist. Junior goalie Jordan Gilmore made nine saves and added three steals in the loss.

Game 4: Chapman 16, La Verne 7
Junior driver Emily Holmquist and sophomore driver Miranda Estrella scored four goals apiece as the Panthers salvaged the seventh-place game on Sunday morning. Each added three assists and 10 different players scored goals for Chapman. Gilmore made eight saves in the first three quarters to move into second place all-time in Chapman history with 504.
