ORANGE, Calif. – A stubborn second-half defense by visiting Colorado College held the Chapman University women's lacrosse team in check and held on to defeat the host Panthers 14-12 in a non-conference matchup at Wilson Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers turned a 9-7 halftime deficit into a victory by limiting Chapman (3-7) to just three goals and nine shots in the second half.

Trailing 10-7 early in the second period, Colorado College (10-3) scored four straight goals to take an 11-10 lead and held the Panthers to just one goal in the final 18:56 of the game, including a scoreless stretch of 17:53.

Both teams were streaky in the first half after Chapman opened the game with back-to-back goals by senior M Lauren Mah and sophomore M Brooke Martini. Colorado College followed with five consecutive goals – three by Tigers' Mary Taussig – to take a 5-2 lead. And the Panthers responded with six in a row to grab an 8-5 advantage with 7:04 remaining in the half. Martini scored four of her team-high five goals during that particular Chapman run.

Despite the loss, Chapman senior GK Kara Podesta made 15 saves in goal to keep the game close. The Tigers out-shot Chapman 39-26 in the game, in part as a result of a lopsided 2-to-1 advantage in draw controls (CC 21-7).

Taussig led Colorado College with four goals and added two assists as the Tigers won their fourth in a row.

Senior A Allie Kontny scored four goals and an assist for Chapman.
