ORANGE, Calif. – It was a Senior Day win and SCIAC Tournament clinch for the Chapman University women's lacrosse team with a 24-14 win over Cal Lutheran. The Panthers sent off three seniors – Ada Carr, Lani McCOmbs and Angelina Welsh – with a 10-goal victory to claim the final spot in the SCIAC Tournament.
The high-scoring affair featured the most goals scored by the Panthers this season. Both Zoey Stephens and Ava Regan scored five goals for the Panthers with Stephens assisting on another for a six-point game. Carr celebrated her Senior Day with four assists and a pair of goals.
Anna Barton added in four goals and Tade Scheid came away with a hat trick in the win. Madelyn Kuhnlein made five saves.
Chapman never trailed after Madi Escobar scored the opening goal three and a half minutes into the match. The lead grew to 6-2 in the first quarter. The Regals made a few small runs to cut into the lead and cut the lead down to just one with less than five minutes in the second quarter.
A five-goal run to end the half turned the momentum back to Chapman's favor. Escobar, Scheid and Barton all scored in a final minute flurry to extend the lead to 13-7 by halftime. The run continued into the third quarter as Chapman opened up the lead to 15-7 and the Regals never came closer than five goals the rest of the way.
The win put the Panthers back in the SCIAC Tournament with two matches still left to play in the final week of the regular season. Chapman finishes up the regular season at Occidental on Wednesday and at CMS on Saturday. Seeding is still undetermined with Chapman trailing Redlands in the standings by half a game.
