Women's Lacrosse

Second-half rally comes up short for Chapman

Box Score

ORANGE, Calif. – Five consecutive goals early in the second half helped the Chapman University women's lacrosse team overcome a 9-4 deficit to tie the game, but visiting Allegheny College pulled away in the end to defeat the Panthers 13-12 in a Wednesday matinee at Wilson Field.

Chapman (2-6) scored with 56 seconds remaining on a goal from sophomore A Kylee Moore to cut the deficit to one and needed to win the ensuing draw control for a chance to tie. However, Allegheny (6-0) won the draw and stalled the remaining time off the clock for the win.

The Gators remained unbeaten this season and ran their winning streak to 10 dating back to last year.

Allegheny turned a 4-3 lead into an 8-3 lead with four straight goals near the end of the first half. Chapman senior A Allie Kontny scored with 22 seconds left before the break to make it a four-goal deficit at 8-4.

After Allegheny scored just 18 seconds into the second half, Chapman began to mount its comeback. Moore and sophomore M Brooke Martini each scored back-to-back goals and then senior M Lauren Mah tied the game at 9-9 at the 18:14 mark. Less than five minutes later, Moore put the Panthers on top briefly at 11-10, but the Gators would score the next three goals to take the lead for good.

For Allegheny, junior M Kelsey Rodgers led all players with six goals, including five in the first half. Sophomore A Makenzie Bell added five assists for the Gators.

Moore led Chapman with four goals, followed by Martini with three. Sophomore M Allison Camp pitched in with two assists. Chapman out-shot the Gators 39-23 in the game, but were turned away 19 times by Allegheny freshman GK Kaelin Clogan.

The Panthers are right back at it on their home field on Saturday when they host Pacific University (Ore.) at 12 p.m.
