ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University women's water polo
team couldn't recover from a big first half deficit and dropped its
final home game of the season 17-10 to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in a
battle of two of Division III's top-10 teams. The Sagehens entered
the game ranked No. 2 in the division while the Panthers are ranked
No. 8.
Senior 2-meter Sabrina Cook made it a memorable
'Senior Day', playing in the final home game of her Chapman
career. The senior scored eight goals in the game and in the
process broke the Panthers' single-season goal scoring record with
104 goals this season. Cook scored six of her eight goals in the
second half and the record-breaking goal with 3:23 remaining in the
game.
Chapman's other senior 2-meter defender Daniella
Beintema also played well with two assists and three
steals in the game. Beintema leads the Panthers with 70 steals this
year.
Pomona-Pitzer (20-8) led 6-1 after the first quarter and scored
13 first-half goals total. Tamara Parea paced the
Sagehens with six goals in the first three quarters. Chapman (9-19)
scored the final four goals of the game, but never got closer than
seven goals.
Sophomore goalie Celia Huling limited any
further damage for Chapman, making 15 saves in the game for the
