Box Score ORANGE, Calif. — Chapman women's water polo split their home doubleheader Saturday, defeating Whittier 15-10 in their first home conference game, then falling to Azusa Pacific 18-9 later on the same day.
Game One
Kendall Pappan led the way for the Panthers offensively, getting scoring six goals, getting two assists and another two earned ejections. Pappan finished the game with eight total points. Junior newcomer
Lyric Roddenberry also scored four goals on just five shots. She had six total points and two earned ejections. Sophomore
Kimie Ginoza added another three goals, four assists and three steals to round out the on slot.
Defensively, Ginoza led the way with those three steals, while goalkeeper
Zoey Francis had 10 total saves and three steals on the day.
Aveen Cunningham and
Ruthie Lax added another two steals each.
Game Two
A few hours later, Chapman returned to the pool to play against APU where they kept things competitive in the first half, trailing just 7-5 at halftime.
Kate Launius led the way for the Panthers offensively, netting three goals. Pappan added another two goals to go along with three assists.
Annie Nadolski also added on two goals. Launius netted the first goals of the game essentially back-to-back making the game look promising for the Panthers.
After three quarters, Chapman was still within striking distance, trailing by just three 11-8. Defensively, Francis added another 11 blocks in just three quarters of play. Ginoza, Launius and Chloe Gonzales added another two steals each. In the fourth quarter, Chapman just didn't have quite enough in the tank.
The Panthers now sit at 1-0 in SCIAC play and 3-5 overall. They will head to La Verne to play the Leopards on the road on Wednesday, Mar. 4.
