McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The 2025 season came to a close as the Chapman University softball team fell 5-3 in the Regional Final against Linfield. The Panthers battled back from an early 4-0 deficit but feel just short of the comeback.

The Wildcats jumped on top early with four runs in the first two innings but Rose Malen settled in to keep the Panthers scoreless over the next three innings. Chapman got on the board in the second when Morgan Lastinger scored off a booted ground ball.

In the sixth, Chapman rallied for a pair of runs to close the gap to a run. Charisma Ortel started the rally with a one-out single. Ortel went 2-for-3 at the plate to continue her scoring hot May. Ilianna Serna also had two hits, including a first inning double.

After a walk put runners on first and second, Sam Kennedy smashed a double into the left center gap and Miranda Murphy followed with a sacrifice fly.

Linfield added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning but the Panthers brought the tying run to plate after a single from Jordan Westerfield. A couple of ground balls ended the game and sent Linfield into the Super Rregional.

Serna, Malen and Grace Fosselman were each selected to the All-Tournament team after outstanding performances that led the Panthers to their first Regional Final since 2005.

Chapman finishes the season with a 33-11 overall record and captured its second SCIAC Tournament championship in four years.
