Women's water polo gears up for SCIAC Semi-Finals

ORANGE, Calif.— Chapman women's water polo finished third in the SCIAC regular season behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer. The Panthers recorded eight wins in conference play and clinched a first round bye in the SCIAC Tournament. They will compete against CMS in the semi-finals on the road in Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m.

Ahead of the semi-finals, a look back at notable moments and story lines from the 2025 regular season: 

Francis dominating in goal
Zoey Francis came in as a transfer student in 2025 from Los Angeles Valley College and has dominated since the moment she jumped in the pool as starting goalkeeper. Francis was most recently named to the All-SCIAC Second Team. She currently leads the SCIAC in saves with 296 to date. She leads second place by over 80 goals for the entire 2025 season. In SCIAC play, the senior also leads the conference with 136 saves. Francis also set the new program record for saves in a single game with 23. 

The Crucial Offensive Attack 
Senior Alyssa Fricker, Sophomore Kendall Pappan and freshman Nina Bastick have both provided immense offensive punch for the Panthers. Fricker is currently a senior leading the country in scoring with 125 goals in 2025. She also leads the program in scoring at 288 goals.  Pappan is currently second on the team in scoring and top three in the conference in sprint wins with 29 total. She has also netted 56 goals and ties Fricker with 46 assists on the season. Both attackers were also named to the All-SCIAC FIrst and Second Teams. Bastick is currently third on the team in scoring and assists with 22 goals and 17 assists. She has been nominated for Chapman Athletics Freshman Athlete of the year, while Pappan has been nominated for Sophomore Female Athlete(s) of the year.  

How the team matches up in SCIAC/against CMS
The SCIAC Tournament semi-finals are set with Cal Lutheran facing off against Pomona-Pitzer and CMS going up against Chapman. The winners of both games will play in the SCIAC Tournament finals on Saturday. Chapman matched up against CMS just once in conference play on Mar. 5, 2025 at home. The Panthers fell narrowly 9-7, as Fricker and Pappan led a comeback in the second half. Chapman trailed 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, and the attackers scored five goal combined. Chapman is also looking to punch their first ticket ever to the SCIAC Tournament title game.
