ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University track & field teams saw some record-breaking performances at the SCIAC Quad Cup as the men's team took third and the women's team took second. Overall, the team placed second with a combined men's and women's score of 279.50. The Panthers also set six school records during the evening meet.
Mason Fara set 200 meter record, tied the 400 meter record and then helped set the men's 4x100m record in one of the fastest meets of his career. Fara took first with a 21.36 in the 200m to better his own school record. He also won the 400m, matching his school record of 46.93 that he set at last year's SCIAC Championships.
In the 4x100, Fara ran the second leg of the record-breaking relay. Jonah Kim led off the relay, followed by Fara, Nick Burton and Wyn Smoole. The Panthers came in second with a 41.56.
On the women's side, three individual records went down. Proud Kitnitchiva ran a 1:03.63 to win the 400m hurdles and take down her own school record in the event. Lindsey Gray took second in the long jump with a leap of 5.44 meters (17-feet, 10.25-inches) to surpass the school record set one year ago.
Freshman Eva Ndoye had a school record breaking mark in the shot put. One her final attempt, she broke the school record for the second time with a mark of 11.92 meters (39-feet, 1.5-inches).
Chloe Mitchell and Sarah Charles also won their events for the Chapman women's team. Mitchell's throw of 36.89 meters (121-feet) won the discus while Charles won the 400m dash with a time of 57.45.
The women's relay teams also took first in both the 4x400m relay and the 4x100m relay. Makenna Lizarde took the Panthers from third to first on the last leg of the 4x100 as the Panthers finished at 47.98. The team of Kaylee Smith, Makenna Lizarde, Proud Kitnitchiva and Sarah Charles won the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:53.22 – five and a half seconds in front of the next team.
The Panthers are back on the track on April 12 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite.
