Box Score ORANGE, Calif. — Chapman softball (15-3, 3-1 SCIAC) defeated Redlands (19-5, 5-2 SCIAC) at home Friday 2-0.
Ilianna Serna hit a triple deep into right center field in the first inning.
Miranda Murphy was on third chomping at the bit to run home. And run she did giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Redlands committed an error, allowing
Morgan Lastinger to score,
Samantha Kennedy on base and
Grace Fosselman to advance to third base. Chapman gained a 2-0 lead they would never relinquish.
Redlands only managed six hits for the entire game. Chapman pitcher
Rose Malen struck out three as the Panther only gave up one double and two stolen bases the entire game. Murphy earned another three walks while six other Panthers earned hits.
With the tight victory over the Bulldogs, Chapman moves to second place in SCIAC play trailing just Cal Lutheran.
Chapman's conference series against Redlands continue Saturday, Mar. 29 with a double header on the road at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. PT.
