ORANGE, Calif.— Women's basketball forwards
Layla Woods and
Shanna Brown landed spots on the All-SCIAC First and Second Teams for the 2024-25 season. The two-headed monster down low proved to be one of the most dominant in the Southern California based conference.
Woods, who was selected to the first team, ranked sixth in the conference averaging 14.9 points and 11th in the conference earning 7.1 rebounds per game. She also ranked fourth in the conference in field goal percentage shooting 44.5 percent. Most of those buckets came from her signature move. Woods developed a near flawless turn around jump shot that would arc over opponent's outstretched hands with ease. Many knew it was coming, few could ever stop it.
Brown, who was selected to the second team, ranked top five in the SCIAC in scoring averaging 15.6 points per game. The forward was also top 15 in rebounding and led the conference in free throw shooting at 88.9 percent. The sophomore was a dynamic playmaker who could also shoot it when her team needed her to. She's crafty in the paint and uses her strength to her advantage.
Combined together, the two stars average just over 30 points a game in conference play, and have led Chapman to a three seed in SCIAC Tournament. The Panthers will travel to play at Cal Lutheran in the semi-finals with a trip to the SCIAC title game on the line on Saturday, Mar. 1.
