Claremont, Calif. — Chapman cross country is gearing up to compete in the SCIAC Championships at the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday, Nov. 1. On the women's side,
Brenda Daza is a conference front runner to podium and potentially win the conference title in the 6k. The junior broke the program record in the event at the Highlander Invitational running a time of 20:56, which breaks down to a 5:36 mile. Daza will be leading the pack following in the footsteps of
Annika Carlson, so graduated in 2025 and placed third at the SCIAC Championships in 2024. Chapman finished in sixth as a team.
On the men's side, junior
Gavin White leads the way as their top runner. In the 8k, White holds the program record running a 25:20, which breaks down to a 5:06 mile. Chapman finished in sixth place at the 2024 Championships, with White running a 26:22.
Lucas Turano finished second on the team running a 26:36.
Both teams will be chasing down Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, who finished in first on the women's end in 2024 and Pomona-Pitzer, who won the men's side a year ago. Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. for the men's race and 9:15 a.m. for the women's race.
