RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Brenda Daza shattered the 6k record to lead the Chapman University cross country teams at the Highlander Classic. At the URC AG OPS course, Daza was nearly 40 seconds faster her personal best, and nearly 15 seconds faster than the previous school record set last year.
Daza ran a 20:56.1 to become the first Panther to finish a 6k under 21 minutes and also placed in the top-20 of the loaded 6k Invitational. She ran against a majority NCAA Division I field and placed 15th overall. Distance coach Mircea Bogdan attributed her strong run to the "work ethic, commitment, and perseverance she has displayed all season."
The women's team placed 23rd in the largely Division I field. The men's team also competed in the i8k Invitational and took 22nd as a team. Gavin White led the Panthers, finishing with a time of 25:36.5.
The SCIAC Championships are next up for both Panther teams on November 1 in Claremont, Calif.
