Men's soccer readies for 2024 campaign

8/29/2024 2:00:00 PM

ORANGE, Calif — Men's soccer gears up for the 2024 season, two seasons replaced from winning the SCIAC title in 2022. The Panthers were picked fifth in the SCIAC Preseason Poll by the conference coaches.

Key Matchups

Home Opener

The Panthers open the season at home against Stanton on Saturday, August 31. The contest is the first regular season home game for any fall sport. It's the second time these teams have met on the pitch. Chapman won last year, 4-2.

Trip Back East

Men's soccer travels to New Jersey the first week of September to play two games at Stevens Institute of Technology. The Panthers will take on Stevens on Friday, Sept. 6, and Montclair St., both NCAA Division III opponents, on Sunday, Sept. 8.

SCIAC Slate

The Panthers face Whittier, La Verne, Cal Lutheran, and reigning champion Occidental twice in conference play. For the remainder of the conference, they host Caltech and Pomona-Pitzer, and travel to Redlands and Claremont-M-S.

Key Players

Returners

Men's soccer returns two-time First Team All-SCIAC selection Jackson Busby on the defensive end. Busby scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of the 2022 SCIAC Championship game.

Chapman returns leading-scorer Jonah Friang, who netted four goals in 2023, Dylan Paine, and Leo Wells, who each tallied a pair of goals.

Garrett Lindfelt returns to the pitch after missing the entire 2023 season with an injury. He was vital to the SCIAC Championship team, scoring four goals and assisting on six.

New Faces

14 new Panthers join the Chapman men's soccer team for the 2024 season.

The Panthers welcome 13 freshmen and one transfer. Isaac Storms is familiar with the Division III landscape, joining the squad from the University of Puget Sound. While with the Loggers, Storms saw time in 31 matches, scoring two goals.

Coaching Staff

Head Coach Eddie Carrillo returns for his 29th season at the program's helm. He is 256-201-51 in his career.

Romeo Aguinaldo, Stephen Teal, and Willie Allgeier return to the staff.

Postseason Format

This season the SCIAC adopted and brand new format for the conference tournament. Five teams will be selected to compete in the tournament with a fourth seed vs. fifth seed play-in game. The winner of that match takes on the first seed in the semi finals, while the second seed and third seed play in the other semi final contest.
