Both teams secure third at SCIAC Swim & Dive Championships

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – Both teams held on to third place as the Chapman University swim & dive teams had a strong finish to the SCIAC Championships. The Panthers saw four more podium finishes and saw several records fall.

The Low Tops third place finish is the best in program history while the High Tops also tied their program-best by finishing third. With a program-best finish, Juliet Suess and the Chapman coaching staff were named the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year for Men's Swimming & Diving.

The Panthers' Low Tops scored 507 points to pull away from Caltech on the final day while the High Tops scored 411 points to hold off Occidental, which scored 402 points.
Cole Kershner continued to have the best championship meet in Chapman swimming history as he reached the podium in his third individual event, placing third in the 100 free.

After Simon Jacobs broke Kershner's school record in the prelims, Kershner reclaimed the record with a 45.26 in the finals. Jacobs took eighth.

Kiana Tanizaki-Hudson had the best individual finish of the night, taking second place in the 200 fly with a 2:06.38. Tanizaki-Hudson will likely move on to the NCAA Division III Championships in two weeks in the 200 fly. Summer Solomon won the consolation final to take ninth overall and Jayden Hall finished 12th.

The Low Tops saw their fourth relay reach the podium as they ended the meet with a third-place finish in the 400 free relay. Simon Jacobs, Riley Coleman, Trent Calloway and Cole Kershner teamed up for a school record and NCAA "B" cut 3:01.40. The High Tops relay of Avery Hall, Ryanne Doherty, Tatum Chambers and Megan Lei also came in third with a 3:30.22.

Max Polovinkin started the day with a school record as he swam a 2:04.27 in the prelims of the 200 breast to make the championship final. He finished seventh in the championship final. James Galligan won the 200 breast consolation final with a time under the previous school record as he led the Panthers to a consolation 1-3-4 finish.

Sophia Ryu also won a consolation final to help the High Tops pull away from Occidental for third place. She swam a time of 2:26.02 to take ninth overall.

Chapman's qualified divers will move on to their NCAA Regional meet in San Antonio, Texas next week while some Panther swimmers will await the announcement of the NCAA Championships bids on Wednesday.
