Historic day kicks off SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – It was a historic start for the Chapman University swimming & diving teams at the SCIAC Championships. The Low Tops especially historic day was highlighted by a first-ever champion on the diving boards and a first-ever podium visit for a relay.

Jake Randazzo and Reid Omilian set the tone for the Panthers with a historic 1-2 finish on the 3-meter board. Randazzo became the Low Tops first-ever diving champion with a school record score of 575.85. Reid Omilian posted a 560.10 to take second in the event and Rhys Davies wasn't far behind in fifth.

History kept on rolling in as the Low Tops' 200 medley relay became the first men's relay team to reach the podium at the SCIAC Championships. Riley Coleman, Maxim Polovinkin, Trent Calloway and Cole Kershner combined for the historic effort to finish in third with a school record time 1:30.28.

The High Tops 200 medley relay team also climbed up the podium after finishing third. Kiana Tanizaki-Hudson, Ryanne Doherty, Megan Lei and Avery Hall combined for a school record time of 1:45.59.

The High Tops came in fifth of the 800 free relay while the Low Tops also took fifth and set another school record with a 6:55.73.

McKenzie Abbott led the High Tops on the 1-meter diving board, placing eighth overall.

With a pair of historic finishes, the Low Tops ended the first day in second place in the team standings and the High Tops sit in fourth.

The Panthers head back to East LA College tomorrow for day two of the SCIAC Championships. The 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 200 free relay are on the schedule for tomorrow with men's diving competition wrapping up on the 1-meter board.
