RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Gavin White broke the school record to lead the Chapman University men's cross country team at the Highlander Invitational on Saturday. Annika Carlson led the women's team in 12th place individually.
White ran the best 8k in school history, clocking in at 25:20.7. He finished 52nd overall in a field of 20 teams plus dozens more individuals. Whit surpassed Cole Cooper's school record time set at the same race last year.
White's performance led the Panthers to a 12th place finish as a team with an average time of 26:17.
Carlson continued to have an impressive year against a women's field comprised of two dozen teams -including several Division I teams – and several more individuals. Her time of 21:14.0 was less than two seconds off the school record she set in the Panthers' last race.
Her 12th-place finish led the Panthers to 15th as a team with an average time with an average time of 23:10 in the 6k race. Brenda Daza ran a 22:47.4 to also finish in the top-100 for Chapman.
The Panthers have one more tune up prior to championship season beginning in two weeks. The Panthers next compete at the John Elders Titan Classic in Fullerton, Calif. on Oct. 19.
