ORANGE, Calif. – Records fell in the lanes and on the diving board as the Chapman University swimming & diving teams split a double dual against Pomona-Pitzer and Caltech. Both the High Tops and Low Tops defeated Caltech but fell to Pomona-Pitzer.
The Panthers' 10 seniors were honored for their time at Chapman in the middle of the meet to highlight a successful day in the pool. Max Polovinkin, Kiana Tanizaki-Hudson each took turns breaking swimming records while Reid Omilian and Jake Randazzo took turn breaking records on the diving board.
Polovinkin seemed to take down a record every time off the blocks. After beginning his day with a breaststroke relay split record, he broke both additional breaststroke school records to sweep the event wins. He swam a winning time of 56.88 in the 100 breast and a winning time of 2:03.42 in the 200 breast to put himself at the top of the school records.
Tanizaki-Hudson swam one of the best 200 fly times in the nation earlier in the year but bettered that mark with a 2:02.30 to lower her school record and move up to fifth in all of Division III this year.
On the diving boards, Omilian recorded a school record score of 373.80 to take the top spot on the three-meter board. He beat out Randazzo and teammate Rhys Davies in a 1-2-3 finish for the Panthers. Randazzo and Omilian flipped on the 1-meter board as Randazzo set an new Chapman mark with a 367.60 to edge Omilian for first.
The Panthers take on College of Idaho next Saturday in their final home meet of the season.
