ORANGE, Calif. – Danny Marsh clinched another upset victory for the Chapman University men's tennis team as the Panthers took down No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer 5-4. It was the second upset of a ranked team on the Anderson Tennis Center courts after the Panthers defeated No. 18 Mary Washington earlier in the week.

The Panthers improved to 3-0 in the dual season with the victory over the Sagehens. Chapman went up early with a 2-1 advantage in doubles. Caleb Wilkins and Mac Caldwell grabbed an 8-5 win at the top of the lineup while Jack Alexander and Kameron DeHart won 8-6 in the No. 3 match. Josh Blinder and Ben Jorgenson battled in the No. 2 match before falling in a tiebreaker.

Wilkins cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles. The Sagehens took straight set victories at No. 2 and No. 3 to tie up the match at 3-3. The bottom half of the singles lineup were all locked in tight matches.

After winning his first set 6-2, Blinder dropped the second set in a tiebreaker to force a third with Tommy Hays and Danny Marsh locked in tight battles. Hays was the first to get a 7-6, 7-5 victory. Moments later, Marsh followed with the clinching point in a tiebreaker to win 7-5, 7-6 on court No. 6 and seal the upset victory.

The Panthers moved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the SCIAC before the SCIAC schedule halts until April. Chapman next takes on Christopher Newport at 1 p.m. on Thursday in the third match of its nine-match home homestand.
