ORANGE, Calif. — Women's soccer is back in the SCIAC tournament after missing the cut last season. Here's everything you need to know about their upcoming semi-final matchup against No.1 seeded Cal Lutheran on Thursday, Nov. 2.
Third Time's the Charm
In the Panthers' last two SCIAC tournament appearances in 2019 and 2021, they were knocked out in the opening round by Cal Lutheran. Chapman has suffered two losses to the Regals this season, 2-0 on Sept. 20 and 3-1 Oct. 28. Â
All-SCIAC Stars
Jenna Urrabazo and Emma Harper were named All-SCIAC on Wednesday, Nov. 2 for the second season in a row. Both were named to the First Team — it was Urrabazo's second-straight First Team selection, and the first time Harper has received the distinction in her career.
Urrabazo led the offense with seven goals this season, tied for third in SCIAC, and Harper spearheaded the back-line helping Chapman to six shutouts, adding two goals of her own.
Ashley Wielenga also earned the Award of Distinction for her leadership on and off the field. While she missed most of the season with an injury, she's back in the midfield for the Panthers.
Fantastic Freshman
Sidney Karjian and Pilar Vanheusden have been key contributors on the pitch. Vanheusden has started in 13 games and Karjian, while starting the season off the bench, has become a starter over the last five matches.
The two have scored a combined seven goals and are second and third on the team in scoring respectively — Vanheusden with four goals and Karjian at three.
Chapman, 6-5-5 on the season will look to knock off the undefeated, 14-0-4, Regals in Thousand Oaks and move onto the SCIAC title game on Saturday, Nov. 4.
