Women's soccer falls to Oxy in First Round

Chapman finishes the season with an 8-7-4 record.

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Occidental in the SCIAC Tournament First Round on Monday. Fifth-seeded Chapman made its third consecutive appearance in the SCIAC Tournament.

Fourth-seeded Occidental started fast and put early pressure on the Chapman defense. In the 17th minute, Oxy broke through as Mia Merkelbech headed in the first goal. The Tigers added on in the second half with a goal off a free kick.

The Panthers were able to push forward late in both halves but were unable to find the back of the net. Chapman fired off seven shots with two finding their way on goal. Bella Barretto made a pair of saves.

The Panthers season – the first under head coach TJ Perez – comes to an end with an 8-7-4 overall record.
