ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University swimming & diving teams thrived under the lights of Allred Pool with record-breaking swims and dual meet wins against Redlands. Kiana Tanizaki-Hudson broke two event records as the High Tops defeated Redlands 231-62 and the Low Tops came away with a 200-90 win.
In a night where the lights shone bright on the Panthers, Kiana Tanizaki-Hudson may have shone the brightest. Tanizaki-Hudson demolished her own 200 fly school record and put her self in a strong position to make the NCAA Division III Championships in March. She swam a 2:03.12 in the 200 fly to beat her previous record by over three seconds. Her time as registers as a "B" cut and is nearly two seconds faster than last season's invite time.
Her record-breaking swims and wins didn't stop with the 200 fly. She also broke the 100 fly record with a 55.31 and was just she of the 200 IM record with a personal-best 2:08.50 to take her third individual event win.
Sara Talmaci swept the long distance events, winning the 1650 free and the 500 free for Chapman Megan Lei won the 200 free and 50 free. Sophia Ryu brought in two more event qins as she swept the 100 breast and 200 breast. Lei was also a part of both the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams while Ryu swam the breaststroke leg of the winning medley relay.
On the diving boards, McKenzie Abbot took first on the 1-meter board and second on the 3-meter. Jake Randazzo led the Low Tops on both boards with a 324.65 to win the 1-meter and 304.35 to win the 3-meter.
The Low Tops were led by Trent Calloway and Cole Kershner among several solid swims on the night. Kershner swept the freestyle swim events by winning the 50 free and 100 free in addition to swimming on the winning 400 free relay team. Calloway took event wins in the 200 fly with a 1:55.28 and the 500 free with a 4:50.00.
The freestyle team sweep continued with Cormac McShane winning the 1650 free and Jason Kim touching the wall first in the 200 free. The Panthers were also led by wins from Riley Coleman in the 100 back, James Galligan in the 200breast and Evangelos Tepenkiozis in the 100 fly.
With 26 event wins combined and a greater depth, the Panthers cruised to victory in both dual meets to move to 2-1 in SCIAC duals this season.
The Panthers return to Allred Pool Dec. 1-2 to take on NCAA Division II opponents Concordia and Biola in a two-day meet.
