Men's tennis drops another close match with Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Chapman and Cal Lutheran men's tennis teams lined up for another close match and Cal Lutheran emerged with the 5-4 win to clinch the four-match season series. The Panthers ended their shortened 2021 season with road loss.

The Panthers and Kingsmen played four matches as the only SCIAC teams to field teams this year. All four matches went to a 5-4 decision with Cal Lutheran taking three of the four.

The Panthers started this one on a high note with an 8-2 win in the No. 1 doubles match. However, the Kingsmen responded with victories in the other two doubles matches, taking the No. 3 match on a tiebreaker to take the team advantage in the match.

Mason Marks and Alex Granados each breezed to wins at the bottom of the singles lineup as Marks won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 and Granados won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6. Granados finished the season a perfect 3-0 with all the wins coming on court No. 6. Josh Blinder also won 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 3 match.

Cal Lutheran won the other three singles matches to clinch the match and the SCIAC series.

Chapman ends the shortened 2021 season 1-5 and will return for a full season in 2022.
