Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ORANGE – The bats stayed hot for the Chapman University softball team as the Panthers swept a doubleheader from Cal Lutheran on Saturday. The Panthers scored 19 run on 22 hits through both games to finish up a series sweep, 12-0 and 7-2. The Panther pitchers were equally as impressive, allowing just 10 hits and no earned runs on the day.

Game 1 - W, 12-0 (5 inns.)

In the first game of the two-game set, the Panthers won a 12-0 blowout in five innings behind a nine-run offensive explosion in the third inning.

On offense, the Panthers totaled 11 hits and only left four runners on base. Four players collected multi-hit games including second basemen Tracie Okumura, who went 3-for-3 at the plate driving in one run and scoring two.

The scoring got started right away with a Mykala Tokunaga RBI sacrifice fly, then a Rani Lauwers RBI-triple later in the inning.

In the third, the Panthers collected seven hits and capitalized on four Regals' errors to score their nine runs.

In the circle, Tokunaga was lights out allowing only four hits in the contest and collecting her first win of the 2021 season.

Game 2 - W, 7-2

The Panthers picked up right where they left off in game two of the doubleheader taking down Cal Lutheran 7-2.

The offense started off hot, scoring all seven runs in the first four innings of the contest. Lauwers and Tokunaga both tallied two hits, collecting four of the Panthers' seven hits. With the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth inning, junior Julia Muniz roped a line drive into left center field. The ball rolled all the way to the wall allowing Lauwers, Tokunaga and Peyton Mattson to score and Muniz to reach third for a three-RBI triple.

In the circle, Simi Lauwers pitched three innings allowing no runs and no hits along the way. Katie Carder and Kelly McCarty finished out the game pitching. Carder allowed two runs, both unearned and McCarty shut down the Regals in the seventh.

The Panthers will play a doubleheader next Saturday at home against SCIAC rival La Verne. The time will be announced within the coming days.
