SCIAC series starts with narrow loss to Cal Lutheran

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team suffered a narrow 5-4 loss at Cal Lutheran in the first match of the SCIAC series. The Panthers won four of six singles matches as they nearly came back from a doubles deficit.

The Kingsmen swept the doubles points to take a 3-0 advantage in the match. Sophomores Caleb Wilkins and Josh Blinder battled through a close match in the No. 1 match but ultimately fell 8-7.

Wilkins won redemption when he came away with a three-set win in the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Blinder fell in straight sets but junior Harry Cohen and freshman Mason Marks both won 6-4, 7-5. Freshman Danny Marsh also won in straight sets in the No. 6 match but CLU's Shawn Rothermel clinched the match with a win in the No. 5 match.

The Panther host the Kingsmen on April 10 for the second match in the best-of-five SCIAC series.
