ORANGE, Calif. – In their second match of the season, the Chapman University men's tennis team fell to Christopher Newport at home. Chapman began the day with a 2-1 deficit in the doubles matches, and fought to gain the lead in singles but ultimately came up short 6-3.

The dynamic freshmen duo Adrien Rooney and Luke Bennett secured Chapman's first win of the day 8-3 in the doubles competition. Senior Matthew Mead and junior Len Kamemoto lost their match 8-4, and sophomore Jacob Lee and senior Brock DeHaven fell short 8-3.

The Panthers had two wins in the singles competition, earned by Kamemoto and Rooney in courts two and four, respectively. Kamemoto defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-2, and Rooney won his sets 6-4, 6-1.

Lee narrowly lost his match in court one, fighting a tough battle against his opponent and taking the match into the third set. After losing the first set 6-2, he rallied to win the second set 6-4, but ultimately fell 6-4 in the last set.

In two days the Panthers will return to the courts to host Rhodes college at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 9.
