ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman men's tennis team held their own in their match against UC Santa Cruz on Sunday, but ultimately fell 6-3. The Panthers maintained close scores throughout the doubles and singles matches, making the Banana Slugs work hard for their win. 

After three close doubles matches, Chapman trailed UCSC 2-1. In court two, junior Len Kamemoto and senior Matthew Mead secured the Panthers' first victory, winning their match 8-6. Senior Brock DeHaven and sophomore Troy Manditch narrowly lost 8-6 in court three and sophomore Jacob Lee and freshman Adrien Rooney fell to their opponents 8-5 in court one.

Rooney and senior Igor Belineli both won their matches in the singles competition. Rooney won his sets by a large margin, defeating his opponent in court three 6-1, 6-2. Belineli fought a close match in court four to win 6-4, 7-5.

In court one, Lee fell in the third set against his opponent, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. In court six, DeHaven also lasted three sets, winning his first 5-7 but ultimately coming up short in his second two sets 6-1, 6-3. 

Kamemoto and Bennett narrowly lost their matches in courts two and five, 7-5, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-3, respectively.

Tomorrow the team gears up for their match against Pacific University at the Jack Kramer Club in Los Angeles.
