Men's tennis takes 6-3 victory over Colorado College

ORANGE, Calif. – A strong showing in singles led the Chapman University men's tennis team to a 6-3 win over visiting Colorado College for its first victory of the season. The Panthers (1-1) took five of the six singles matches to overcome an early deficit.

The Tigers (0-9) took two of the three doubles matches to capture an early lead. Despite falling in the Nos. 2 and 3 matches, sophomore Len Kamemoto and junior Mathew Mead took an 8-6 victory in the No. 1 match to make it 2-1 Tigers after the doubles portion.

Chapman quickly rebounded with straight set victories in the bottom half of the lineup to take a 4-2 lead in the match. Junior Igor Belineli won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 while senior Rasmus Helms won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5. Freshman Terry Kang kept the momentum going with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 6.

Colorado Collge's Sam Hum won 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 match to keep the Tigers hopes alive. After dropping the first set in the top singles match, Kamemoto rallied to grab the 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win. Junior Brock DeHaven also won 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 in the No. 3 match.

The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when they welcome Bates College to the Lastinger Tennis Center.
