Women's soccer erases early deficit for 4-2 comeback win

Box Score

ORANGE, Calif. – After going down two goals early on, the Chapman University women's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to secure a 4-2 comeback win over visiting Lewis & Clark. Senior Kourtney Kingsmore fueled the comeback with two goals and an assist.

Over the first 25 minutes, Lewis & Clark had command of the contest but Chapman turned the tables late in the first half as the offense exploded in the second for three goals. The Pios (0-2) outshot the Panthers 11-9 in the first half but the Panthers (2-0) held a decisive 22-3 shot advantage in the second half.

Rochelle Jordan opened the scoring for Lewis & Clark with a well struck shot across the box that found the side netting. Caroline Hennes made gave the visitors a 2-0 lead when she collected a clearance attempt near the top of the 18-yard box and found the top corner of the goal just over 23 minutes in.

Down 2-0, the Panthers ramped up the energy and began to put attacks together. Chapman first played a ball over the Pios high back line for freshman Taryn Silverglate to run on to. The Pios keeper came way off her line for the clearance but Silverglate beat her to the sideline and crossed a pass to a Kingsmore, who touched it into a wide open net just before halftime.

Chapman dominated possession in the second half, keeping the ball in their attacking half. Kingsmore had a shot deflected away at the 59-minute mark but was in the exact right spot as the clearance attempt by the defender bounced off of Kingsmore and into the net for the equalizing goal.

The Panthers stayed on the attack and struck again 11 minutes later. Sophomore Emily Holbrook struck a Kingsmore pass perfectly inside the far post for the game-winning goal. Seven minutes later the Panthers added to their lead with freshman Jordyn Bradbury's first career goal. Bradbury's initial shot was blocked right back to her feet and she was not denied on her second attempt.

Senior Kristin Kleinow mad six saves in the match, including four in the first half. The Panthers moved to 2-0 to start the 2016 season. Next week, Chapman travels to Texas for a pair of non-conference matches.
