ORANGE, Calif. — The Chapman University women's soccer program began a full slate of Homecoming festivities by celebrating senior day. The Panthers celebrated
Sidney Karjian,
Athena Tsakiris,
Melania Metanovic,
Pilar Vanheusden,
Kate Stenta,
Vanessa Valadez, Bella Ionnue and
Bella Barretto.
The Panthers went up against Azusa Pacific for the first time since APU has started the process to join the SCIAC. Chapman fought hard in the blistering heat, but ended up falling 1-0. The Panthers fought an uphill battle in the second half. Due to a heat advisory, the universities and officials agreed to cut the second half down to 25 minutes.
Goalkeeper
Millie Barber checked in for the second half to make her career debut. She stopped a massive breakaway shot attempt by an APU forward. The freshman closed out beautifully during the one-on-one and popped her leg out just enough to deflect the ball out of bounds.
The Panthers also had eight shot attempts including multiple that hit the goal posts. Chapman will look to get back on track as they re-enter conference play at Occidental College on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
