SAN ANTONIO – Junior Elliott Braund scored in the eighth minute and the Chapman University men's soccer team advanced with a 1-0 win over UT-Dallas on Saturday. With the win, the Panthers advance to the second round of the NCAA Division III men's soccer championship tomorrow at 3 p.m. (PT).

Chapman put the pressure on the UT-Dallas Comets from the opening whistle as freshman Justo Garcia fired off the Panthers first shot just 21 seconds in. Chapman shot four times in the first 10 minutes and earned back-to-back-to-back corners in the 10th minute before Braund found the net.

After the third corner, senior Marco Saglimbeni forced Comet keeper Joseph Weber to make the save. Weber was able to deny Chapman's leading scorer but Braund cleaned up the rebound with a shot into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.

The Panthers continued on to outshoot the Comets 8-5 in the first half and 15-11 in the match. However, Chapman put five of its shots on goal compared to just one for UTD.

The biggest moment of the second half came in the 64th minute when UTD was awarded a penalty kick after a Chapman foul in the box. Isaac Urcuyo stepped up to the spot and tried to shoot to the lower right. Junior Sean Augustine read the attempt perfectly and punched it away to preserve his team's 1-0 lead.

The Comets hit the post just over 15 minutes later with another scoring opportunity but could not find the equalizer.

Chapman held off UT-Dallas' late push forward for its first tournament win since 1998. Braund's goal was Chapman's first in the tournament since a 2-1 loss in 1999.

The Panthers advance to tomorrow's second round matchup with Trinity at 3 p.m. (PT).
