Track & Field gears up for SCIAC Championships

Redlands, Calif.— The Chapman University track & field programs are gearing up to compete at the 2026 SCIAC Championships at the University of Redlands Saturday, May 2 to Sunday, May 3. Many heavy hitters will be in contention for podium finishes yet again. In 2025, the women's program came in second place, just four points out of first and the men's team can in third place. 

On the women's track side, Makenna Lizarde looks to make major noise heading into the 100 meter sprint as the two seed with a 12.01. Lizarde is also ranked third in the 200 meter sprint with a 25.12. Sarah Charles will look for a podium finish and potentially a SCIAC title in the 400 meters. She comes in ranked second in the conference with a 57.05. Riley O'Conner comes in ranked fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.95. In the distance group, Brenda Daza comes in as the defending SCIAC champion in the 10,000 meters and currently ranks second in the conference going a 36:32. 

On the men's track side, star senior Mason Fara leads the way. He is the defending conference champion in the 400 meter and ranks first in the conference in 2026 with a 47.01. He also ranks third in the conference in the 200 meter sprint with a 21.45. Fara was also the Track Athlete of the Year in the conference in 2025. Lucas Turano comes in ranked fourth in the 800 meter with a 1:51.95 and eighth in the 1500 meter with a 3:54.35. In the 110 meter hurdles, Wyn Smoole comes in ranked fourth in the conference with a 15.08. He will also compete in the Decathlon, where he made the podium in 2025 taking third place at SCIACs with 6084 points. He also holds the program record in the event. 

On the women's field side, many heavy hitters return from earning podium spots in 2025. Lindsey Gray is currently ranked first in the long jump leaping 18-feet, 1.75-inches (5.53 meters). She also ranks second in the triple jump leaping 36-feet, 10.5-inches (11.24-meters). Sophomore star Eva Ndoye returns to the shot put after making it on the podium in 2025. She ranks first in the SCIAC coming in with a mark of 38-feet, 9.5 inches (11.82 meters). Ndoye will also compete in the javelin, where she ranks in second with a throw of 134-feet, 3-inches (40.92-meters) Chloe Mitchell comes in ranked first in the discus as just a freshman throwing 139-feet, 11-inches (42.65-meters). Ashley Granger comes in ranked third in the Hammer going 138 feet (42.07-meters). In the pole vault, Annika Moskal ranks top three, clearing 11-feet, 0.75 inches (3.37 meters).

On the men's field side, sophomore pole vaulters Thatch Balady and Derek Amlicke lead the way in the pole vault being ranked first and second respectively coming in. Their assistant coach, Jesse McMillan, was the NCAA Division III National Champion Runner-Up in the event during the 2024-25 season. Balady comes in going 16-feet, 4.75 inches (5.00-meters). Amlicke comes in going 16-feet, 2.75 inches (4.95 meters). In the high jump, Asher Cleary comes in ranked in the top three clearing 6-feet, 4.75 inches (1.95-meters). In the triple jump, Isaac Robin comes in ranked first after leaping 46-feet, 0.5 inches (14.03-meters). He is also the two-time defending conference champion coming into the event. Robin was also named the SCIAC Field Event Athlete of the Year in 2024.

In men's and women's relays, the both 4x400 teams rank first coming into the competition. On the women's side, Chapman comes in with a time of 3:49.54. On the men's side, the Panthers come in with a time of 3:11.88. In the 4x100 meter relay, both teams are ranked third coming into the competition. The women's team qualified with a time of 47.87, and the men's team qualified going a 41.46.
