PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. – Nika Gholami's top-5 finish led the Chapman University women's golf team at the UC Santa Cruz Invite. Gholami took fourth individually with a strong finish to the tournament.
Both Gholami and Lauren Lee started strong as both were four-over par in the opening round and sat in 12th place individually. Gholami shaved off four strokes to move up eight spots in the final round. She birdied four out of six holes between holes 7-13 to make the leap.
Lee was nine-over on the final day and finished the tournament in 23rd place.
As a team, the Panthers opened the tournament in ninth and stayed there through the second round, shooting 66-over par. They shaved off four strokes from day one to day two to stay ahead of Whitworth in 10th.
The Panthers head to SCIAC #2 on Friday and Saturday in Beaumont, Calif.
