Azusa, Calif. — Junior distance runner
Brenda Daza from the Chapman University track & field program broke a 37-year-old school record in the 10k. Daza competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University. She went a 36:32.06 in the 10k, which shattered the record of 37:01.00 set by Carla Figueroa in 1989.
Chapman Athletics did not transition to the Division III level until 1994, making this record part of the program's Division II era. Daza now ranks second in the SCIAC and top 35 nationally in the 10k. Daza also smashed her personal best in the event by 10 seconds. With this record falling, all current women's track & field program records have been set since the return of sports following the pandemic.
Daza is the defending SCIAC Champion in the 5k and expected to continue contending in the conference in both distance events.
