LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced senior Rose Malen as the Division III Pitcher of the Week for the week of Mar. 9-15. Malen is the first player in Chapman softball history to earn the national award.

From Hawaii to California, Malen had a dominant week in the circle with 17 consecutive shutout innings over three games. She posted a 0.39 ERA for the week and limited three opponents to a .105 batting average. She struck out 12, walked five, allowed six hits and just one run.

The week started with a no-hitter on Monday in an 8-0 win over Dickinson. She walked the first two batters of the game and then retired the next 15 in a row as the Panthers earned the run-rule victory.

She pitched four more shutout innings in a start against Minn-Morris before leaving the game with a big lead. She re-entered in the sixth to close out the win.

When the Panthers returned to their home field on Sunday, she tossed another six no-hit innings against Pacific Lutheran. She was just three outs away from a second no-hitter before a solo home run broke up her bid but was the only hit of the game.

Through the first half of the season, Malen has maintained her All-American form with a 9-2 record and a 0.73 ERA.

No. 18 Chapman and No. 10 Redlands meet in a non-conference matchup today at 3 p.m. in Redlands before Chapman returns home to take on Oneonta on Friday.
