ORANGE, Calif. — Chapman softball star pitcher
Rose Malen was named the SCIAC Athlete of the Week. The senior star has earned the recognition for the second time in her senior season lone. In a week which took the Panthers to Hawaii and back, Malen dominated no matter the location.
In Hawaii, she threw a no-hitter in an 8-0 win in five innings over Dickinson, the first of her career. In that game alone, she retired 15 consecutive batters after walking the first batters. She struck out five in that game, and needed just 57 pitches to add the new career accomplishment.
As if that dominance was enough, Malen almost tossed a second no-no in under a week back home at El Camino in a 6-1 win over Pacific Lutheran. She went through six innings without giving up a hit, and closed out the game quickly in the seventh inning. To round out the week, the 2025 SCIAC Pitcher of the Year tossed a six-inning shutout against Minnesota-Morris to eventually lead the Panthers to an 11-3 victory.
Overall, Malen went 3-0 on the week, had a total of 12 strikeouts with an ERA of under one.
