CLAREMONT, Calif. – The successful career of Caleb Wilkins came to a close on Friday with an opening round loss in the NCAA Division III Singles Championship. Wilkins fell in straight sets to Javier Gonzalez.
Wilkins made his third trip to the national championship event – the most bids for any Chapman men's tennis player in the program's Division III history. After finishing the season 13-6 individually, Wilkins drew Tufts' Gonzalez in the first round.
Gonzalez earned a break point right out of the gates and jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set. He held on to momentum as Wilkins fell 6-3, 6-2 to end his historic career.
Wilkins leaves Chapman as the winningest player in Chapman's Division III history with 73 singles victories.
